Digital X-Rays

digital x-rayKenneth Hill, DDS is proud to announce that we now offer the revolutionary Galileous 3D digital imaging system. The new Cone Beam 3D imaging system is a breakthrough in dental technology, and drastically reduces the amount of radiation received by patients when their teeth and gums are x-rayed. This makes the system safer for patients and safer for staff as well. This new system is far quicker and more comfortable than the x-rays you are used to receiving. For more information, continue reading our guide to digital x-rays below.

What is the 3D Cone Beam Imaging System?

The 3D Cone Beam imaging system consists of a digital x-ray scanner that is mounted onto a rotating arm. This digital technology replaces the old-fashioned x-rays you may have previously received in your dentist’s office. The camera projects the x-rays in a cone-shaped beam that is carefully controlled. The scanner will pass around your head in a complete circle, giving your dentist a full 360 degree picture.

What are the advantages of digital x-rays?

This new technology is faster, easier, and safer for both you and your dentist. Digital x-rays expose patients to 90 percent less radiation than the old-fashioned film x-rays. They also reduce the need for toxic and caustic chemicals that your dentist and dental assistants were once required to mix in their office.

Using digital imaging, Dr. Kenneth Hill receives a more accurate picture of your teeth, gums, and the underlying bone, allowing them to more easily and accurately identify any dental or oral health issues you may be experiencing. Additionally, digital x-rays are a far quicker procedure. With digital x-rays, your images can be viewed right away. Dr. Hill will be able to look at the x-rays in 2D or 3D. They can rotate the images so that they may be viewed from any angle and at any magnifications, allowing them to better see the relationships between your teeth, bones, nerves, tissues and airways. This lets him better evaluate any existing or potential dental issues and create a more accurate and personalized treatment plan.

Unlike traditional methods, digital x-rays allow your dentist to share the images captured with you, opening the way for better communication between dentist and patient. By allowing you to see the images for yourself, your dentist can provide you with a better understanding of your oral and dental health issues. The new 3D ConeBeam Imaging system provides the same high-quality images usually provided by a full CT scan, but with far less radiation.

Finally, digital x-rays have another very important benefit. With digital x-rays, record keeping is much easier and simpler. Unlike previous methods, duplicates can be more easily created, allowing for smoother processing and communications between your dentist’s office and your insurance company.

How do digital x-rays work?

When taking a digital x-ray, your dentist will ask you to sit in a chair that has a swing arm over it. From there, it can record images of your teeth, gums, and the underlying bone, giving your dentist a clear and immediate view of any issues or areas of concern. Your dentist will be able to examine the overall structure of your tooth, as well as the health of the tooth root and surrounding bone all from the digital x-ray. Once this is done, your dentist can make an accurate diagnosis and quickly set up a treatment plan with you to address any issues they may have found.
